Holy Moly’s top 40 celebrity twits?

March 27, 2009

brandI read a very entertaining report from celebrity gossip website Holy Moly the other day. In their ever-amusing quest to undermine the egos of celebsville, they have created a formula to determine the most self-obsessed celebrities on Twitter.

100-(100 divided by f1 multiplied by f2)=tool percentage when: f1=followers f2=following

(‘tool’ being the term they’ve used to describe a particularly narcissistic celebrity).

In short, they’ve looked at how many followers a celebrity has, and then compared this to the number of people the celebrity follows. This tells Holy Moly if someone is using twitter as a two-way communications tool (speaking and listening) or whether someone is using Twitter to blast out their thoughts and bask in the @replies from their followers.

Russell Brand topped their list of self-obsessed tweeters while Twitter darling Stephen Fry scored pretty well, coming in at a respectable 40th position on the self-absorbed scale.

I don’t want to take this too seriously, but I thought it was an interesting observation into Twettiquette. If you’re represent a brand on Twitter, it would pay to follow your followers to avoid appearing too self-important and to really benefit from the two-way conversational opportunities that Twitter affords.

Have a look at the Holy Moly report here (warning, if you’re easily offended and don’t like swear words, you might want to avoid clicking on this).

Thanks to Holy Moly for the picture

We’re very proud of this. Our client Sachin Duggal, CEO of Nivio and World Economic Forum technology pioneer had a 30 min profile piece on BBC World Service show Global Business earlier this week. Here’s a photo of Sachin speaking to the presenter Peter Day over at White City. If you’d like to check out the podcast version of the piece, click here to go to the BBC’s site.

All singing, all dancing journo buddies – Jon Snow & Lyceum Publishing

March 20, 2009

Jon Snow and Mara Carlyle

While we love to tweet@, email, call and instant message (etc, etc) our journalist buddies, we also know that it’s important to drag ourselves away from our monitors and phones to meet up with our favourite reporters for a drink.

But last night, Komodos got more than they bargained for when they went out into the night to enjoy a drink or two with our favourite reporters.

Over at a Lyceum Publishing party (they publish Bluff, iGaming Business etc) at Hanover Square, one Komodo was treated to a dance by one of their magazine editors. While in Islington, another Komodo was serenaded by none other than Channel 4 News presenter, Jon Snow (pictured here signing a duet with Mara Carlyle at the gig. Excellent voice, by the way).

Honestly, the things you discover about your journalist friends when you meet them face-to-face, eh?
